Employee Relations Manager

Solomon Islands Ports Authority trading as Solomon Ports is inviting applications for the position of Employee Relations Manager.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Human Capital Officer, the Employee Relations (ER) Manager plays a critical leadership role within Corporate Services. The position is responsible for overseeing all employment relations matters, driving dispute resolution, and ensuring fair, compliant, and constructive workplace relations across the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Act as an expert advisor to management and employees to resolve workplace conflicts, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and employment and labour standards.
  • Lead negotiations and maintain active oversight of management and union policies to foster a positive industrial relations environment
  • Coordinate formal grievance procedures, managing employee complaints with impartiality, confidentiality, and timeliness
  • Provide ongoing strategic and tactical counsel on workplace relations and employment standards.
  • Develop, Review and enforce company policies, handbooks and codes of conduct
  • Manage disciplinary matters, investigate employee misconduct and provide management with informed advice for decision making.
  • Lead, coordinate and negotiate contracts or resolve disputes with labour unions and employee representatives
  • Oversee training to ensure that employees know their rights, responsibilities and employment terms
  • Ensure SIPA operations adhere to local employment laws, labor regulations, and collective bargaining agreements and other relevant agreements relating to employment
  • Responsible for any other task as directed by the CHCO from time to time.

Requirements/ Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business, psychology or related field
  • A combination of experience and qualifications may be considered.
  • At least five years’ experience in HR, employee engagement, employee relations
  • Knowledge of SI Labour and employment laws within SI context is an advantage
  • Legal background with ER/IR experience can be considered
