JOB OPPORTUNITY - WORKSHOP MANAGER

Position: Workshop Manager
Department / Division: Engineering
Work Location: Port of Honiara, Solomon Islands
Report to: Chief Port Engineer
Job Summary:
Provide effective management and efficient running of the mechanical workshop services, oversee the maintenance and servicing of core port operational plants and equipment, procurement of parts from suppliers locally and overseas, liaise and coordinate with overseas plants and equipment suppliers for maintenance and servicing support, maintain, support and motivate a dynamic, dedicated and high achieving mechanical workshop team.
The mechanical Workshop Manager plays a pivotal and significant role in providing efficient maintenance support to ongoing port terminal and stevedoring services that guarantees Port terminal operation and stevedoring services continuity.
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Delegates mechanical servicing tasks, responsibilities and sets deadlines.
•Schedule and manages plants & equipment maintenance servicing support
•Coordinate and promptly attend to daily equipment breakdown during terminal and stevedoring operations.
•Procurement of parts locally and with overseas suppliers
•Liaise with overseas equipment supplier for parts and servicing support
•Diagnose mechanical and electrical equipment faults
•Maintained a dynamic mechanical workshop team, clean and conducive workshop working environment
•Coordinate hands on training for mechanics to service and maintain core port heavy plants and equipment
•Monitor and maintain necessary spare parts inventory and stock level
•Reports on status of plants and equipment
•Liaise and communicate with port terminal heavy plant operator supervisors and managers on equipment faults and diagnosing
•Coordinate repairs and servicing of light vehicles fleet
•Manage and maintain light vehicle licenses, third party insurance and other required necessities
•Appraise employee work performance base on annual work output and assigned roles and responsibilities.
•Implement and enforce basic safety procedures to reduce and prevent accidents due to negligence
•Reduce plants and equipment downtime to boost customer confidence and expectation.
Relationships/Contacts: CEO, CPE, Vendors, Dealers and Suppliers, Operations Managers, Transport Supervisor and Plant Operators.
Work Experience:
•Demonstrated experience in Kalmer and Omega heavy plant port equipment in diagnoses, repair and maintenance.
•Demonstrated experience in managing and servicing of a large fleet of Port operation heavy plants and equipment.
•Extensive experience in diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, and general repairs.
•Demonstrated experience in meeting deadlines in a demanding mechanical workshop working environment.
•Proven experience in coordinating and scheduling of plants and equipment servicing, managing and leading a mechanical workshop team.
•Five (5) or more years’ experience in a senior role in managing a sizeable mechanical workshop team.
•Having sound experience in procurement and parts sourcing.
•Basic Knowledge of Port Operations and Port Facilities.
Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical/Automotive with 5 or more years’ experience in a senior role.
