Solomon Ports Successfully Participates in the 47th Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance Conference in Rarotonga

Solomon Ports has successfully completed its participation in the 47th Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance (PMTA) Conference, held in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, under the theme “Building Stronger Pacific Ports, Regional Collaboration, Sustainable Infrastructure, and a Skilled and Resilient Workforce.”

The Solomon Ports delegation was led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. George Rausi, accompanied by Captain Percy Biliki (Harbour Master), Mr. James Kabini (Assistant Manager – Operations), Ms. Suellen Teferomu (Legal Officer), and Mr. Lowen Sei (Senior Communications and Media Officer).

The PMTA Conference is an annual regional Ports meeting to discuss shared challenges , and find pathways to improve the maritime transport and Port sector , with the sharing of ideas, and solutions to address common challenges faced by Pacific Ports, from climate change to digitalization , improving aging infrastructure and more. 

CEO Rausi was a key panelist in the opening session, “The State of Pacific Ports,” where he presented Solomon Ports’ experience and insights on pressing industry issues. His contribution emphasized the Authority’s ongoing efforts to address challenges such as aging infrastructure, digitalization, and efficiency improvements. He also highlighted the importance of setting regional benchmarks for Pacific ports and called for stronger collaboration and knowledge sharing across the region.

On Day Two of the conference, CEO Rausi delivered the Solomon Islands country report, which outlined the Authority’s major achievements since the last PMTA Conference in Nadi, Fiji. He also updated on Solomon Ports’ long-term strategic priorities ,  showcasing future strategies aimed at strengthening port infrastructure, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Speaking after the conference, CEO Rausi reaffirmed Solomon Ports’ commitment to contributing to the collective growth of Pacific ports, stating:
“This conference was an important platform for us to not only share our progress, but also to learn from the experiences of our regional partners. Collaboration is the key to building stronger, more resilient Pacific ports that can withstand global challenges and drive economic growth for our island nations.”

The conference brought together port leaders, maritime experts, and stakeholders from across the Pacific, providing a platform to discuss shared challenges and opportunities, while advancing the collective vision of a sustainable and connected Pacific maritime network.

Solomon Ports remains committed to playing a proactive role in these regional dialogues and driving initiatives that will transform port operations in the Solomon Islands for the benefit of the nation and the wider Pacific community.

Next Year’s 48th PMTA Conference will be held in Nuku’alofa , Tonga.
